College Essay Carnatic Music

College Essay Carnatic MusicDo you love the most popular song in the world? What about the most infamous rap song ever? Did you know that some of the greatest hits of all time were written by composers who had studied and played with orchestras and chamber musicians? Those are the types of classical compositions that these classic songs were written and recorded for. One thing to be aware of when it comes to a song is that if the subject matter or theme seems too obscure or non-musical that it might not be a good choice for your college essay. For example, when students focus on classic movies that they have seen like 'The Sound of Music'Gone With the Wind,' they are more likely to focus on this information during their essay. Because these particular films were so popular when it was first released, it is very likely that they will be included in a college transcript, if the student chooses to focus on this kind of research. In music theory, the composer or musician decides on what not es to use to create a certain sound or musical note. The people who write and arrange the pieces of music that are played throughout the world understand how the piece should be performed and read, as well as how they should be performed at different key signatures. It is through this process that these composers and musicians come up with the best compositions. It would be a horrible mistake to include a piece of classical music that has very little meaning or structure to a college essay. Sometimes it is even important to include a piece of classical music that the student is unaware of the specific composers that composed the piece. Of course, the composer or bandleader of the piece of music can address the issue in the conclusion of the essay, but it is important to let the students do their own research, by writing down any and all information they might learn during their coursework. The composers and musicians who created these compositions had to attend various schools of musi c before they were able to compose or perform a piece of music. Their training and study of classical music had to be put into practice. Students who write essays should consider learning about these important composers and artists, and study their legacy in this musical form of expression.Students should also consider learning about the bands and musicians who made the music that is played in bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. These venues have been instrumental in developing a new generation of the musicians who write the most popular music today. The most important aspect of the composition is the way in which the students choose to deliver the information to the reader. Carnatic music has a distinct musical essence that makes it a favorite of many music lovers. Some other types of music students can focus on include jazz, blues, pop, funk, rock, and R&B.

Baxton Technology Free Essays

Student name: Joseph Maloney Student number: 10391669 Word count: 940 I hereby certify that this project is entirely of my own work and has not been taken from the work of others save to the extent that such work has been cited and acknowledged within the text of the project. Signed: _____________ Alkermes’ human resource (HR) strategy is all about acquiring employees who show personal initiative and who get satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to make a difference in the lives of millions of people every day. Alkermes ultimate goals are to develop medicines that address unmet patient needs, to help its customer’s live happier, healthier lives. We will write a custom essay sample on Baxton Technology or any similar topic only for you Order Now The Athlone facility of Elan must choose a strategy that supports the corporate objectives of Alkermes. They must align and prioritise the various activities of the strategy to accomplish their objectives. HR strategies need to simultaneously focus on building skills, motivation and behaviour for a successful business strategy. In my opinion the generic HR strategy most appropriate to align with Alkermes corporate strategy, is the resource-based view (RBV) model. The RBV model works towards identifying the firm’s potential key resources and developing and manipulating them to build a value-creating strategy. When Alkermes decided to merge with Elan one of their main reasons for doing so was that they could use Elan’s most valuable resource, the Elan drug technologies (EDT) unit. The EDT develops proprietary drug technologies that can be applied to a number of products, improving the effectiveness of the drugs. With Alkermes now having obtained a technological resource with a rarity that will help them gain a competitive advantage over their rivals, they must now focus on their human resources. They look to acquire talented employees who show initiative and feel good about improving people’s health. Combing and developing these resources will help them build a strong RBV model. When Alkermes employees are asked what is the main objective of the organization the reply should always be, â€Å"Excellence in everything we do†. They pursue this excellence because they know they are working towards improving the wellbeing of other people. Alkermes hopes to instil this same hypothesis in the Athlone facility of the organization. They plan to acquire talented employees who show initiative, motivation and know their commitments are ultimately towards improving the health of their customers. They plan to set up a RD programme where employee engagement is encouraged and rewarded. Most importantly they want to manage performance so that all processes are carried out in the most successful way. If all of these objectives are met the success of the organization should be easily obtained and worthwhile. RBV shows that people are strategically important to a firm’s success and that they are a potential source of sustainable competitive advantage. Alkermes have obtained a rare and valuable organizational capital in the form of the EDT unit; they now must match this with a highly skilled human capital that will get the best out of this technological resource. RBV focuses more on the HR pool, i. e. the employees than on the actual HR practice, so employees should have both a high level of skills and a willingness to achieve. Creating a good HR pool can be hard to imitate by competitors, so it can create a competitive advantage. High pay is always a major pull in attracting the best employees, as is perks, i. . company car and health benefits, as is bonus and new job opportunities for good work. Yet, Alkermes states that their commitments are ultimately towards the wellbeing of the patients that use their products. This will attract employees who feel they have a morale obligation to help people in need. This is an example of attracting potential employees using a non-monetary policy. When trying to create a performance managemen t policy for an organization you have to look at all the types of capital that affect performance, i. . human, social and organizational capital. RBV looks to integrate all the capital resources of an organization to create the most suited HR policy. Alkermes have already greatly improved their social and organizational capital by merging with Elan and using the EDT unit respectively. Now Alkermes have to look at managing the performance of their human capital. When trying to collect data on performance you cannot completely rely on employee reports via surveys about how they feel the HR strategy is working. You have to collect more quantative data. Collect data on things such as production per hour rate and job turnover rate, this will give you a more in depth idea as to how employees are preforming. You can now use this information to decide on what reward and training systems to put in place to improve performance. Communication must be both upward and downward in an organization to discover how employees are performing. It will give you an idea on what employees want and if they are best suited to the post they are in. Good performance management will result in higher operating performance, which will translate into increased profitability. Reward management is concerned with the implementation of strategies and policies that aim to reward people fairly, equally and consistently in accordance with their value to the organization. The objectives of reward management are to recruit and retain, motivate employees and to strengthen psychological contracts. They can be both monetary (bonuses) and non-monetary (esteem, i. e. job title). RBV looks at obtaining and holding onto the best possible employees, and the best way to retain them is through a strong reward system. Overall I believe that if Alkermes adopt the RBV approach and combine all of their resources by carrying out the objectives entailed they should be able to achieve their cooperate strategy. I feel that the information presented in this report is a good guideline as to how they should carry out their objectives. Hopefully the merger between Alkermes and Elan will run smoothly and will be profitable. References: http://www. alkermes. com/ www. shrm. org. digitalcommons. com. King Of Handcuffs Essays - Harry Houdini, Houdini, Escapology

King Of Handcuffs The man known world wide as the most famous magician of all time, Harry Houdini, was born March 24, 1874 in Budapest. Although Houdini often claimed to be born in Appleton, Wisconsin, Houdini actually came to the United States when he was four years old. In later years, in a magazine interview, Houdini said, " the greatest escape I ever made was when I left Appleton, Wisconsin." Houdini's actual name was Ehrich Weiss. His father was Mayer Samuel Weiss. He was a Rabbi for the German Zoin Jewish Congregation in Appleton. His mother's name was Cecilia Steiner Weiss. His parents spoke Yiddish, Hungarian, and German. The family was quite poor so most of the children began work at an early age. At the age of eight, young Houdini sold newspapers and worked as a shoeshine. At the age of 12, Houdini left home to make his way in the world in an attempt to help support his family. Young Houdini traveled the country for about a year, always sending money home when he could. Finally he joined up with his father in New York City. The move to New York would change his life and introduce him to the world of big time magic. In New York, Houdini worked as a messenger and as a cutter in the garment center sweatshop to help support the family. He was very athletic and won awards in swimming and track. He would use these athletic and swimming talents to great use in his future as an escape artist. Houdini's first magic shows consisted of card tricks and other simple magic. They called him " Soon Harry starts using handcuffs and other restraints in his shows. Houdini begins offering rewards to anyone that can restrain him. Houdini escaped from handcuffs, leg irons, straightjackets, jail and prison cells, a mail pouch, packing crates, a giant paper bag (without tearing the paper), a giant football, an iron boiler, milk cans, coffins, and the famous Water Torture Cell. In most of these escapes, there was never a sign of how Houdini accomplished his release. To help draw the crowds Houdini would perform his escape in full view of the audience. Houdini was the King of Handcuffs. On October 22, 1926, after a long lifetime of dangerous feats, Houdini was in Montreal performing at the Princess Theater. In the dressing room at the theater a young athlete from McGill University asked Houdini if he could actually withstand punches to the stomach as he heard. Before Houdini could prepare, the student began to punch the legendary magician in the mid-section. Houdini did not know it but his appendix ruptured. Houdini did not die in an escape or fail in some final escape, as many believe. The King of Handcuffs died on October 31, 1926 of an inflammation of the abdominal lining, a kind of internal Gangrene. Houdini today is one of the best known performers of all time and Houdini's name has come to mean the ability to escape from any restraint or difficult situation. He always insisted that all he did was by natural means. One of his last inventions was to escape after being buried alive, a stunt he did very few times. Houdini not only earned a place in history but in the dictionary as well. Works Cited 1. Christopher, Milbourne. Houdini: the Untold Story. Crowell, 1969. 2. Fitzsimmons, Raymond. Writing Tips Metaphors and Similes - Get Writing Tips with Proofed!

Writing Tips Metaphors and Similes - Get Writing Tips with Proofed! Writing Tips: Metaphors and Similes Metaphors and similes are common in creative writing, and both use comparisons to tell us something about the world. However, there are some important distinctions between the two. So, before you dive into the seas of literature, let us offer the life jacket of knowledge as we explain the differences between metaphors and similes. We will apologize in advance for all the nautical imagery, but we do enjoy a theme. What Are Metaphors? Metaphors are words or phrases applied in a non-literal way to make a comparison. For example: The winter sea was a dark blue wasteland stretching to the horizon. Here, the metaphor is calling the sea a â€Å"dark blue wasteland.† The sea is not literally a wasteland; if it were, it would be considerably drier. However, by making this comparison, we can suggest that the winter sea shares qualities with a wasteland (e.g., being inhospitable and empty). The essence of a metaphor is that, even though it is not literal, it is stated as if it were. It is not just a comparison: We are saying that the sea is a wasteland, which looks like a literal statement on the surface, so we have to know that it is a metaphor before we can understand it. Metaphors are common in poetry and literature, but they’re also in some everyday phrases. If we say we are â€Å"all at sea,† for instance, we mean that we’re confused, not literally that we are lost on the ocean! Even the term â€Å"table leg† is technically a metaphor, since â€Å"leg† originally applied to limbs only, but it so common now we don’t even notice it. It is therefore known as a dead metaphor. What Are Similes? While metaphors involve suggesting that something is something else, similes are more modest. If we use a simile, we are only saying that something is like something else. For example: The sky rumbled like an argument in the heavens. Here, we’re not suggesting that there was actually an argument going on; we are simply saying that the thunder reminds us of an argument. Similes therefore use terms such as â€Å"like† or â€Å"as if† to indicate they are not literal (e.g., â€Å"the wind seemed angry† or â€Å"we ate as if we were starving†). Metaphors vs. Similes Ultimately, you don’t need to know the differences between metaphors and similes to use them. However, knowing this is essential if you’re writing about literature for a college paper! Remember: A metaphor involves claiming that something is something else to make a comparison A simile only involves claiming that something is like something else

Project management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 17

Project management - Essay Example Mediation regarding theory development in project management is not a recent development; this essay has discussed the fit between several published theories regarding project management and individual practice as a result of my participation in the Being-Active project. There are several published theories about management, though this article has touch on a few that were relevant with the discourse. Actually, the discipline of project management is not the only discipline of knowledge that within its progression falls into this trap of reinforcing its theoretical base as one of the academic discipline. Theory can be described as a scientific principle facilitating prediction and avails explanation for a given phenomenon as contrary to the body of knowledge (Tauber, 2007). In respect to this, a theory as the way it has been defined in natural sciences entails empirical verifications founded on direct observations and personal experience as per laws or scientific typology that assists in organizing things, give an explanation for the past and predicting the future occurrences and help explain the factor behind the way things do happen. Most entrepreneurs are most likely to have employees with skills in project management. This may be so in that learning the skill of project management becomes more useful and important. Good project managers are come from experience or being train ed, and not by birth. (Blanco, 2011) In getting involved in ActiveBeing project 2014-15, there are several managerial theories that one may notice as to being in use. There are some critics who argue that there is no explicit theory of project management (nmbm). During the stay, there were a lot of activities which needed to be handled in order to achieve the goals at the end of it all. As new entrants into the field of management that is competitively hard to handle, it was advisable to
